Manpower Software plc. - Database Consultant, Systems Integrator, Computer Trainer, Hardware/Software/Network Support and Testing

MSW is now a publically listed company in London with expertise in Manpower planning systems. I was recruited to do training and support but for a periods I moved into testing of the main client server product suite written by the company. This requires detailed knowledge of SQL, Windows NT as well as the products.

For 2 years my role was the management of the service centre which provides support for all of MSW's products. This involes the handling of contracts, resources and providing technical advice to the other team members.

I have progressed to a Senior Technical Consultant status which is a troubleshooting and analysis role. I also am involved with the documentation of new technologies and mission critical installations. I am frequently required on a consultancy basis to assist with the testing and support departments.

1991-1994

I also headed up the design team for a prize winning project on designing a fairground ride which was a combination of hydraulics and multiplayer space invaders.

Alton Towers helped many of the groups in this exercise. It's also my current favorite UK theme park. Our group were given a lot of help from Namco Europe Ltd and Park World Magazine. Vekoma also helped with details on the saftey restraints. See Vekoma Home page for details of Vekoma rides.

Projects

Work projects include:

Seamless product customisation using VBA, HTML and TSQL
High performance data migration and system integration in DTS
Porting a complex SQL 6.5 application to SQL 2000
Integration of application suite to the NT Secure Edition platform and to Citrix Metaframe.
Implementation of Touch Paper helpdesk system including custom links to HR database, Intranet, Outlook and an email based interface to ClearQuest
Extention to database replication system to allow replication of photographs, implemented using custom extended stored procedures written in C++ for MSSQL.
Rollout of marine security system to HQ and 2 ships including testing of application over sattellite links and setup of ship's lab server.

I am currently an associate member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers who's articles on technology and management are quite inspirational.

Since passing my Microsoft Windows NT4.0 Server exam, I have gained "Microsoft Certified Professional" status with SQL Server Implementation, Administration and Design as my electives. I have passed both the SQL 6.5 and 7.0 exams and have been working with SQL 2000 since early 2001.

I have been trying a few of the free BrainBench tests.
